A note from Rebecca

I am a native of Louisville and in my early 20's I began a career as a Flight Attendant for US Airways/American Airlines where I traveled the mainland and internationally having the opportunity to explore various cultures and meet extraordinary people while living in various places until I retired after 22 years of flying where I settled in my hometown of Louisville and founded Kentuckiana Behavioral Services LLC (2010).  I understand that finding the right therapist is a individual and unique decision that begins by looking at your own needs and preferences.  My approach as a therapist is evidenced-based therapies along with the mindset that we all have within us the answers to our problems when we are able to balance our emotional reactivity.  Challenges are a normal part of living and overcoming these challenges means we sometimes need to take a path of looking within and choose personal growth.  I meet each client with the knowledge that with the problem is the answer. A down-to-earth way that recognizes and supports each individual's resiliency and confidence in taking on life's bumps and coming out stronger and capable.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based form of pyschotherapy that addresses traumatic events and memories in addition to other adversive experiences.  Bilateral eye movements with a light bar or other alternative methods (hand sensory taps, audio stimulation tones) are used to process an unprocessed disturbing memory.  Just as the body has the ability to recover from injury, the mind can also heal from emotional trauma.

CBT

Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based psychotherapy that addresses an individuals behavior and cognitive processes (thoughts, images, beliefs, attitudes), how the cognitive structures relate to feelings and behaviors.  CBT primary goal is to address present thinking, behaviors and communication in resolving problems.  CBT includes cognitive restructuring and reframing, guided discovery & exposure therapy, behavior activation, relaxation & stress reduction techniques.  CBT provides the opportunity for the client to acquire the skills to be generalized in all environmental settings.

DBT

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based psychotherapy that addresses extreme emotions and self-destructive behaviors.  DBT includes skill acquisition in interpersonal effectiveness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation and mindulness.  DBT primary goal is to balance self-acceptance with change while providing validation.  DBT focuses on the individuals strengths while learning alternative healthy behaviors as well as addressing cognitive structures.  A important component of DBT is the communication collaboration that a individual may generalize these skills from the therapy office to independent application.

Intergenerational Family Therapy
Narrative Therapy
Narrative Exposure Therapy

Intergenerational Family Therapy (IFT) recognizes generational patterns that may influence how the family system and individual behaviors may be repeated behavior patterns.  IFT purpose is to assist individuals and family units to recognize and learn how the family's emotional system functions.  An important component of IFT is the process to Differentiation of Self which guides individual family members to function independently from the family system when discovering one's own opinions, feelings, and values and still remain emotionally connected to the family while  promoting individual responsibility.

Narrative Therapy (NT) recognizes the individual separate from their problems.  NT empowers individuals to identify their own strengths, skills, and personal expertise to direct and guide their lives, including the ability to problem-solve any challenges.  NT guides the client in authoring their own narratives and construct new meanings in their relationships.  NT supports individuals with improving self-awareness, self-management skills, social awareness & empathy, and taking responsibility in making their own decisions about the course of the future.  NT goal is to support individuals in identifying their own values and self-acceptance and to use these tools to address problems and live fuller lives.

Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET) is an evidence-based treatment for trauma-spectrum disorders that consist of complex and multiple traumas.  NET treatment consist of organizing a chronological and orderly narrative of the individuals life with emphasis on the trauma experiences.  NET goal is to assist trauma surviviors to figure out how these experiences have affected their life and make sense of them while simultaneously exposing the individual to the memories.
